The Bushmen hunt

By | July 9, 2011

This is one of my favourite paintings. It is not one of the latest artworks I’ve done but remains a favourite.

I’m busy on another painting at the moment which I will be publishing shortly – with camels! I know that camels aren’t really from Southern Africa, but they are plentiful where I come from originally and of course in North Africa.

The Heat in Etosha

By | June 3, 2011

Etosha means ‘place of dry water’. The reserve covers an area of about 22 750km² and consist of semi-arid savannah grassland and thorn scrub. The pan itself is about 5000km² and has water only after very good rains, which isn’t very often. From June through to November it gets very dry and the animals then go in search of any water they can find.

The Hippos Fight

By | May 22, 2011

Hippos are aggressive animals and this gets even worse if there are babies present. Rival hippo bulls will stand up to each other opening their mouths as wide as possible, which can be up to 150 degrees (called ‘gaping’ or ‘yawning’). A smaller or weaker bull will usually back off which could prevent a full blown fight occurring, so deaths from fighting each other is not common.  If a fight does occur, the bulls use their lower incisors to slash at each other, bellowing loudly.

Art is my passion and I would like to share it with you. South Africa has a wealth of subject matter for my art inspiration and the work you see here shows that.

If you would like me to do a specific subject for you, please contact me as I also do art on commission.
